Story Development & Outlining (2-Day Class)
June 5th, 2016This is a closed class being give to members of the Animation Guild on Sunday June 5th and Sunday June 12th. Registration is closed.
In this course you will learn:
- How to develop and plan a story from the idea and concept stage to outline/treatment stage
- How to use different outlining processes and why they’re important
- How to develop your major characters and make them compelling, memorable and castable, including their external and internal motivations
- What elements you need to brainstorm and know in order to start writing your story (genre, characters, conflict, theme, world building, subplots, etc)
- How to use genre and their expectations to develop your story
- How the scene is the essential unit of film storytelling, the arc of each scene and how to create set piece scenes
- How to use—and go beyond—3-Act structure
- How a writer builds not just structure but the texture of story and world
- How to ratchet up tension and re-raise stakes throughout a screenplay
- The importance of making unexpected moves…to keep the writer surprised and invested as much as the audience
