Class 5 – Writing Horror Doesn’t Have to be Scary with Rudy Scalese

Rudy Scalese, VP of Nala Films and producer of the doc “Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film,” will discuss what indie and studio development execs are looking for right now when it comes to genre films and what elements you need in your horror and thriller script to ensure it hits the mark. He’ll explore a brief history of the genre from the first major independent genre movement in 1978 with Halloween and how it progressed and changed through the 80s and 90s and into the 21st Century to today. The marketplace is ripe for genre material and Rudy will give you the tips to make sure your project is on track.

Rudy Scalese is the Vice President of Development & Production for Nala Films, where he recently helped oversee development & production of the film Casa Di Mi Padre starring Will Ferrell, Ceremony written and directed by Max Winkler starring Uma Thurman, Michael Angarano and Lee Pace, and Shelter, a supernatural thriller starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Scalese also produced the documentary Going to Pieces: The Rise & Fall of the Slasher Film for Starz/Encore and used to run the genre film showcase event Screamfest.
